Recap: Calgary Service Business Meetup
On March 8, 2018 we took over the top floor of charbar, a converted mattress factory in Calgary, Alberta’s East Village neighborhood, for a networking event to kick-off our Calgary event series. (Yes, the food was amazing, and, yes, we recommend it!)
Help local service businesses build their rolodex of other business owners (to build referral magic, and so you always have an answer when your clients ask if you know a trustworthy arborist/cleaner/painter/etc.), and give property managers the opportunity to meet service businesses in person.
Six Jobber team members were also there to talk shop and learn about the successes and struggles of local businesses. Here are a few of our takeaways.
1. Certain home service industries are saturated in the Calgary market due to the economic downturn forcing some folks to look for new employment. New businesses in cleaning and lawn care for example are undercutting established businesses, but the quality of work experienced home service businesses provide means clients who stray are coming back.
2. Established business owners in Calgary are all for sharing advice with new faces looking to offer quality services. One of our guests, a longtime Jobber client, spent nearly the whole two hours passing on valuable advice to a couple of newer business owners. He asked us to throw a longer event next time! Noted, Gord ?
3. Bring more hats! Nothing makes us happier than seeing friendly faces in Jobber swag in person, on social media—wherever! So running out of ball caps and toques at our swag table both makes our day and makes us wish we came prepared with double the hats. We’re on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram if you ever want to tag us in a photo.
